Las Vegas is a city known for its glitz and glamour, but there’s a small, dim space that’s worth seeking out: The Laundry Room. This speakeasy is located within the walls of Commonwealth, a beautiful bar in its own right, and it’s the perfect place to enjoy a unique night out with friends.
Speakeasies are popping up all across the country, capitalizing on nostalgia from popular shows such as ‘Boardwalk Empire’, ‘Mad Men’, and others over the years. In Las Vegas it seems like a new speakeasy is opening each week and I even wrote about it in 2022 for Matador Network (the link is below). Even now, that list seems lacking as several new speakeasies have popped up in the city.

The Laundry Room is decorated in a pre-Prohibition Era vintage style, with exposed brick walls, dim lighting, and just enough space to squeeze in roughly 20 people. You won’t find beer of any kind and don’t even bother sitting down if you’re looking for shots, but you’ll find that the bar is stocked with a variety of spirits.
Guests will also have their fill of gourmet popcorn to munch on while drinks are sipped on. There’s a small cost for the popcorn, but it’s well worth it.
The Laundry Room is an ideal place to relax and unwind after a long day of exploring Downtown Las Vegas, but reservations are strongly advised, especially on the weekends.
The atmosphere is intimate and inviting, and the staff is friendly and attentive. Even when music is thumping at Commonwealth, The Laundry Room feels chill and relaxed, which is a wonderful reprieve from the near-sensory overload of Sin City.
Tips for Visiting The Laundry Room
Here are some tips for visiting The Laundry Room:
- The Laundry Room is located inside Commonwealth (525 E. Fremont Street), just a few steps from the world famous Fremont Street Experience.
- The Laundry Room mixologist will make you a custom drink, but they’ll ask you very detailed questions about what flavors you like to craft your cocktail. It’s a fun experience, so try it out.
- The Laundry Room is open from 5pm until late, seven days a week.
- Reservations are strongly recommended, especially on weekends.
- They take the “speak easy” part seriously. No yelling or super loud conversations are permitted.
- No photographs. **Yeah, I broke that rule. Sorry.**
- Be patient. These fine cocktails take a minute, but they’re well worth it.
Favorite Drinks at The Laundry Room
Back In Kokomo
Ingredients: Gin or Whisky, Falernum, Lemon, Passion Fruit Syrup
Without a doubt, my favorite drink at The Laundry Room, it’s a tropical drink that’s both frothy and delicious. I usually have at least two of these each time I visit.
Foreshadowing
Ingredients: Rhubarb Gin, Alpine Liqueur, Elderflower, Habanero Bitters, Rosemary
Tasty drink with notes of floral and spice. It usually foreshadows me sleeping face down on my pillow, looking like a murder victim.
Brandy Alexander
Ingredients: Brandy, Heavy Cream, Cacao, Simple Syrup
The Brandy Alexander’s origins are debatable, being linked to various places such as London in 1922 for the wedding of Princess Mary and Viscount Lascelles, or in New York years later for the celebration of Phoebe Snow.
There are different accounts and arguments, including it being John Lennon’s favorite drink during his infamous “lost weekend” in 1974, but regardless it is a heavenly drink and a perfect way to end the evening with a touch of something sweet.
