The Langham, Chicago may be the very definition of “elevated travel” having set the standard for luxury hotels around the world when the original Langham opened in 1865 in London.

The London location made a name for itself by embracing innovation. It used modern luxuries such as electric lights, hydraulic lifts, and air conditioning when competitors were still years away from adopting these indulgences.

Since then, travelers have come to expect a certain level of elegance, service, and heritage no matter which brand property they visit around the globe (there are six in the U.S. alone).

That’s what has made The Langham properties a favorite among royalty, dignitaries, celebrities, and everyday travelers alike around the world.

Where Are You?

Located just steps from the historic Chicago Riverwalk on North Wabash Avenue, The Langham rests among some of the most famous architectural landmarks in the Windy City such as the Tribune Tower, the Wrigley Building, Plaza of the Americas, and the Irv Kupcinet Bridge.

When I first visited the property in 2019, it was on the tail end of a work trip. Two nights in this incredible hotel was all I got to experience, but I sincerely hope to go back soon.

Details about The Langham, Chicago

The Langham, Chicago resides in an amazing piece of architecture designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe which is 52 stories tall. Taking up the first 12-stories, The Langham, Chicago has everything guests have raved about for more than 100 years: large, beautifully designed rooms, subtle accents of bronze and marble, a hint of whatever that beautiful aroma is that they keep pumping through the air vents is.

Afternoon tea is had at the Pavilion, while worries are masterfully melted away at the Chuan Spa.

It’s posh but refined. It’s gorgeous with few contemporary comparisons. It’s the Langham, Chicago.

What makes The Langham, Chicago an elevated experience?

A few things truly set the Langham, Chicago on a different level, even among the high-end hotels and resorts that dot the luxury travel landscape.

The Ludwig Mies van der Rohe-designed building is a marvel. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010 (three years before The Langham moved in) and is worth more than a few Instagram posts.

It’s a quick walk from all of the locations mentioned above, including Millennium Park, Navy Pier, and a host of other iconic locations.

The lounge located on the 12th floor gives visitors access to butler service, panoramic views of the skyline, and cocktails.

Trust us: Travelle restaurant. It’s located in the hotel. Go there.

One often overlooked aspect is the Langham’s vast art collection. Its many artworks by both local and international artists make it one of the largest art holders in the city.

Why is it perfect for couples?

The Langham, Chicago is the high-end luxury stay that couples should aspire to. Every step along its polished floors, along with every inch of marble that decorates its rooms, reminds us of the type of luxury that first held our imaginations as we first set out to climb the corporate ladder or simply sell it all and travel the world as digital nomads.

This was the goal for so many of us, after all.

It sits in the very heart of a (still) great American city, where intersecting lines of culture, architecture, and history meet. Crossroads of simpler times meet the highways of modernization, which can often carry us off to destinations we hadn’t intended.

The Langham, Chicago reminds us that even when our travels take us to stays at luxury hotels, we can come home again.
