I like to travel to places I find interesting, fully believing that not every trip needs to be an Instagrammable mountain pose followed by copy-and-pasted inspirational quote.
When I get to these places, I like to kick back and enjoy a good cocktail. But not just any cocktail. An Old Fashioned.
In fact, fair or not, I judge a lot of places on their ability (or more specifically their bartenders ability) to make a great drink, or miss the mark completely.
Then I blog about it because why not?

It’s a good thing I don’t review restaurants in this space.
I’m sure Tap House Grill (Seattle) is a wonderful place, filled with wonderful people, all of whom have wonderful dreams of one day being a well-run eatery, but alas, this would not be the day.
My wife and I were in Seattle for a weekend getaway, a perfect Christmas present by her that totally surprised me. We would see a baseball game (Astros v. Mariners), check another ballpark off my list, and take in as many of the sights in Seattle as we could.
On the second night we decided to stick close to our hotel and thought Tap House Grill would do the trick.
The drink was meh.
The food was ok.
The service was horrible.
No dinner rush. Waiters and hostesses standing around chatting with one another, no one really caring if service was happening.
Oh well.
I’m not sure which whisky was used, maybe Evan Williams? It tasted… budget-friendly.
160 beers on tap. I’m guessing that’s where the liquor money went.
The ice seemed to smell. Another huge no-no.
There’s only been a handful of times where I haven’t finished my cocktail, and this was one of them.
For a city so full of amazing food, people and places to see… this was a clear miss.
It certainly won’t stop me from heading back to Seattle of course, but I will definitely look for a better establishment next time I dine.
