I have a love / hate relationship with Los Angeles.
I love the city itself, the amazing food and the fun diverse people you can and do meet. It’s everything people say it is when it comes to chasing your dreams, having to work hard to break through, and how it can galvanize your spirit.
I also hate the traffic.
Hate is putting it lightly.
Loathe. Loathe is a better word.
So, when I booked a television commercial shoot with my good friend Jesus Lopez, my only condition was that he drive. I’m a much better co-pilot because my road rage can’t send us careening off into a ravine. Just give me a soda, some chips and I’ll happily just shut up and enjoy the ride.
Los Angeles is about 3.5 hours from Las Vegas, with Van Nuys another 30+ minutes down the highway. The drive, as long as I’m not driving, is quick and scenic.
Unfortunately we didn’t spend much time sight seeing or visiting any of the area’s points of interest but the commercial shoot was short and sweet and exactly what our client wanted. We shared a ton of laughs and a hundred life stories about our families, work, and random experiences.
Life, and travel to an extent, isn’t about destinations and Instagram-ready pictures.
Sometimes it’s just about the trip. The laughs. The good times.
